Illustration Friday - Return

Inspired by Elvis Presley's "Return to Sender" - here's my answer to Illustration Friday's theme of "Return". It's also a bit of a trip down memory lane. When we were kids we were big letter writers. Letters to friends, family and school girl crushes were big productions. Being a girl I've had to reverse the sexes from the original song lyrics for the artwork but I've HAD to include the vintage Elvis clip for your enjoyment!

Desert Disco

                                                  



I live in the middle of the desert, four and a half hours south west of Ayres Rock on the tri-state border of WA, SA and NT. It's a small indigenous community, home to about 150 people. We have a school, general store, media centre and community office. So, when the police come to town to run their disco a couple of times a year, it's cause for HUGE excitment. "THREE MORE SLEEPS!!" was the buzz about school this morning. Come Saturday, the cars will be rolling into town for music and dancing under the desert sky. Who needs a nightclub, with a buzz like this!

Illustration Friday - Shades

Illustration Friday has done it for me! I have been wanting to get a blog going for ages and now I have my kick start. 

My son Jonah who's 4, draws everyday with complete inhibition. As far as he's concerned, he can draw anything. He's a total inspiration. I should draw everyday, but it doesn't always happen. Both my violin teacher at 16 and my life drawing teacher at 19 talked about practise and insisted it was everyday. It's my new challenge for myself and Illustration Friday is a good place to start.

What is Illustration Friday? It's one theme every Friday. With limitless creative possibilities it's got to be a bit of fun. This weeks theme was "Shades"... and yes...I did have fun!
